The wait for the Rivian R2 is finally ending for some reservation holders.

Customers first placed reservations for Rivian’s midsize SUV on March 7, 2024. Now, more than two years later, at least one early reservation holder has received an invitation to order a new R2 Performance.

After completing the purchase and taking delivery, the reservation holder listed the vehicle for sale on Cars.com on July 1, 2026.

The asking price? $79,900.

That’s $21,910 above the R2 Performance’s starting MSRP of $57,990, effectively asking buyers to pay a significant premium to skip the reservation line.

Is it worth paying more than $20,000 just to get an R2 sooner?

According to the listing, the seller is a private owner in Littleton, Colorado, who says the vehicle was originally intended as a present but is “no longer needed.”

Whether someone is willing to pay that premium remains to be seen.

The listing also comes as Rivian increases its expected R2 production by at least 3,000 units, signaling growing confidence in what is arguably the company’s most important vehicle launch to date.

With customer deliveries beginning and test drives taking place daily, it will be interesting to see whether this listing attracts a buyer—or if the premium proves too steep now that more R2s are starting to reach customers.
